What a good rent receipt shows
- Who paid and who received — full names, and the house or unit.
- The amount, the date and the period the payment covers, so a part-payment is never mistaken for a full month.
- How it was paid, with the M-Pesa or bank reference. That reference is the proof if anyone asks later.
- The balance still owed, so tenant and landlord agree where they stand.

Frequently asked questions
Is a rent receipt required in Kenya?
Tenants are entitled to proof of payment, and a receipt protects you as much as them: it settles any later argument about whether and when rent was paid. Issue one for every payment, including partial payments and deposits.
What should a rent receipt include?
The landlord’s name, the tenant’s name, the house or unit, the amount, the month or period the payment is for, the date, how it was paid (with the M-Pesa transaction code if it was M-Pesa) and any balance still owed.
Can I save the receipt as a PDF?
Yes. Press “Print / Save as PDF”, then choose “Save as PDF” as the printer. On a phone, use the share or print option in your browser.
Does this tool store my tenants’ details?
No. Everything you type stays in your browser on this page and is gone when you close it.
